There's a formula to NASCAR's 'start your engines' commands, and it's not dissimilar to the National Anthem: get in, say your line, get out. Don't get fancy, don't get cute, because it never ever ever works. At Sunday's Daytona 500, actor James Franco, in town to promote his upcoming 'Oz, the Great and Powerful,' had to do just one thing: say four words. 'Drivers, start your engines.' It used to be 'gentlemen,' of course, but since Danica Patrick is no gentleman, it needed to change. Well, change it Franco did, but not quite in the way NASCAR would have liked.
Misstep, or not-so-subtle editorial commentary? Most likely, Franco had intended to say 'Gentlemen and Danica,' but hey, this is what happened. Funnily enough, Franco talked about the command in his pre-race press conference. He noted that 'Danica had done something special here, so I might have to switch it up.' And there you have it.
For what it's worth, Danica Patrick started first, but surrendered the lead to Jeff Gordon on the first lap. -Follow Jay Busbee on Twitter at.- Related video from Yahoo!
Omnisport Draymond Green and Kevin Durant both defended Golden State Warriors colleague DeMarcus Cousins after the reigning NBA champions bounced back in style on Friday. The Warriors beat the Denver Nuggets, their rivals for the top seed in the Western Conference, 122-105 at Oracle Arena on Friday, recovering from a humiliating home loss to the Boston Celtics last time out. The team's form – a 3-5 run coming into the Nuggets game – had led to criticism of Cousins, but he responded with a superb showing at both ends of the court, finishing with 13 points, six rebounds, six assists, six blocks and three steals in a 28-minute outing. Yahoo Sports Not long after Michael Bennett said he wanted a pay raise from the Philadelphia Eagles, the Eagles were shipping him off. Bennett, the talented defensive lineman who has made three Pro Bowls in his 10 NFL seasons with the Buccaneers, Seahawks and Eagles, will next be playing with the New England Patriots if a deal reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter gets finalized (we can never be too sure with NFL trades nowadays).
Bennett will come cheap; Schefter said the deal would be the Patriots sending their 2020 fifth-round pick to Philadelphia for a 2020 seventh-round pick and Bennett. Yahoo Sports The relationship between Hall of Fame player turned Emmy Award-winning “Inside the NBA” analyst Charles Barkley and still-active legend LeBron James, as best as we can tell from their public comments, is not a great one.

As such, Barkley, never one to avoid a tasty roast, reveled in the chance to rib the Los Angeles Lakers' star. Fresh off the news that James will be placed on a minutes restriction as the Lakers all but forfeit their 1 percent odds of making the playoffs this season, Barkley turned to the TNT camera to make a public plea to James for his postseason services. NBC Sports Philadelphia Opinion: Angels should just cut bait and trade Mike Trout now originally appeared on nbcsportsphiladelphia.com The Angels might as well wave the white flag and trade Mike Trout to the Phillies right now, because even they appear to know there's not a chance he's staying in L.A. Would an organization confident in its ability to retain its franchise player who's under contract for two more years feel the need to petition Major League Baseball to prevent another player from 'tampering?' They want this to look like a principled stand, an action any competent organization would take when another team is actively trying to poach its best player, but call it what it really is: fear.
